Joey (he/him)

Coach, Colorado Springs

Joey grew up around alcohol addiction and started his own alcohol and other drug use as a teenager. What started as a way to build confidence became a cycle of emotional lows, isolation and suicidality. After committing to wellness, all areas of his life have blossomed.

Coach type: Persons with addiction

Coaching since: 2023

Lived experience:
I started drinking and smoking marijuana when I was 16. By the time I got to college, my addiction was getting out of control. Pretty much every drug was in the picture by then. I dropped out of school, was in trouble with the law and got to a point where I didn’t want to live anymore. I relapsed after about a year of sobriety and was drunk for probably two weeks straight. I realized it was a matter of life or death for me and I needed to truly get well. Since then, my life has just blossomed.

Professional background:
I’ve enjoyed jobs in the mental health space most. I’ve worked as a mental health technician and peer coach, both of which were very fulfilling. Being able to connect with someone and seeing their true growth is incredible.

Expertise:
Mental illness, suicidality, emotional wellbeing, community

Interests:
I love snowboarding, playing hockey and long boarding. I also hike with my dog and listen to a lot of music.
