Data drop: Loved one risk factors

This month's data drop is 64%.

From January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017, more than half of the Face It TOGETHER (FIT) loved one (LO) members who engaged in addiction management coaching for at least 60 days reported a decrease in their overall risk associated with addiction wellness.

In this timeframe, 100 FIT LO members completed 158 FIT Risk Assessments – used to assess the risk for recurrence of issues that impact wellness. This instrument, comprised of 13 unique metrics, is administered every 30 days of enrollments.

Members are assigned a score which is calculated through individual metric responses. Twenty-eight FIT LO members completed at least one follow-up survey, which comprised the cohort for this analysis.

For the cohort of LO members, 64% demonstrated a decrease in their overall risk score. At baseline, 7% were low risk, 83% moderate risk and 10% high risk. After 60 days of coaching with a LO peer, 32% of the cohort were low risk and 68% moderate risk.

The cohort of LO members demonstrated positive change in all the 13 risk assessment metrics at 60-day follow-up. The percent change of members that responded favorably, baseline to follow-up, was significant in four metrics:

  • Compromising their standards and values;
  • Feeling like they were giving more than they felt they should be;
  • Giving up or cutting back on activities that are important or interesting to them; and
  • Amount of stress in their life (Figure 1).

Reduction in risk factors is just one of many aspects that FIT LO addiction management coaches consider when working with our LO members on their journey to wellness.

We believe a healthy LO is important to the wellness process of the person with the disease. When LO’s build strength, they increase their capacity to tolerate what they can’t change and change what they can.
